Speech and Language Therapy
Alison Polzin, MS CCC-SLP
SLP Team Lead; Speech-Language Pathologist
Favorite activity as a child: reading, playing with her American Girl Doll named Kit, and jumping on the trampoline
-
Alison originally went to college intending to become an English teacher, but she discovered speech-language pathology and fell in love with the opportunity to work directly with families and children in one-on-one and small group settings.
“As a Speech-language Pathologist, it is my responsibility to give parents and caregivers the tools to succeed in developing and strengthening the communication and feeding skills of their child outside of the therapy room and into the family's functional home environment.”
She says the best thing about working with kids is that "work" ends up looking a lot more like "play."
Alison earned a Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire, as well as a certificate in American Sign Language. She also has a Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

I have a background in psychology and French, but wasn't sure what to do with either of them. Speech-language pathology presented itself to me as a beautiful combination of my interests in helping others, mental health and wellness, speech and language, and cultivating community.
I love all scopes of my practice, but have a deep passion for early childhood expressive language delay, Autism Spectrum Disorder, .and pediatric feeding therapy.
In my free time, I love knitting, eating good food, and enjoying nature.
Alyssa holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and French from UW-Madison and a master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from UW-Stevens Point.

Speech-Language Pathologist
Favorite activity/toys as a child: Playing soccer, exploring outside, and imaginative play; I had quite the collection of Barbie dolls!
-
I was drawn to this field due to my aunt receiving support from a speech-language pathologist. I was impressed by the wide scope, and I saw how meaningful and impactful this therapist was for my aunt. Throughout my graduate school experience, I recognized my passion for working with the pediatric population. I love getting the opportunity to be on the child's/family's team, working together towards important and meaningful goals. My current interests include feeding and gestalt language processing.
Outside of work I love spending time outdoors going for walks, kayaking, and also baking.
Tracy earned her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders degrees from the University of North Dakota.
Rachel Petersen, MS CCC-SLP
Speech-Language Pathologist
Favorite activity/toys as a child: Spending time outside with the neighbor kids, playing with Barbies and American Girl dolls
-
As a speech therapist at Aspire working in both the clinic and on the Private School team, Rachel feels called to help kids reach success within their daily environments and routines. This may be through communication, in social situations, feeding and swallowing at mealtime, and/or simply having the ability to get their wants and needs met. As parents and caregivers participate in therapy sessions, she enjoys helping them gain independence and carry over the skills learned in therapy into daily life.
“My aunt is a pediatric audiologist, and I was able to shadow her when I was in high school. Audiologists often work hand in hand with speech pathologists, so I also observed a lot of speech sessions and became very interested in it as a career.”
One of the highpoints of her work at Aspire is seeing the pride in both the kids and their families when they reach goals or learn a new skill.
“I LOVE the relationships that I am able to form with my co-workers, as well as my clients and their families. I feel like I get to ‘play’ at work, which keeps everything fun and new.”
Rachel has a Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire and a Master of Science in Speech Language Pathology from the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point.
Elizabeth Stempel, MS CCC-SLP
Speech-Language Pathologist
Favorite activity as a child: Baby dolls, Barbies, dance class
-
When I was in high school, my grandfather was diagnosed with ALS. I saw what a speech-language pathologist did for him, and how his quality of life increased when he was introduced to an AAC device to communicate. My mom is also an occupational therapist, so watching and learning from her, from a young age, made a big impression on me, and influenced my decision making, when it came time to deciding my own career path.
My professional interests include bilingual evaluation and intervention, specifically with the Spanish language; pediatric dysphagia, and oral motor skills as they relate to feeding and swallowing.
Outside of work I enjoy thrifting, DIY projects, and exploring small towns outside of Madison.
Elizabeth earned a Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from Midwestern University and a B.S. Ed. in Communication Sciences and Disorders and Spanish Language from UW-Whitewater.

Favorite activity as a child: Using her family’s camcorder to film movie and TV scenes she acted out with her Barbies
-
When Heidi was in college, she learned about the different ways therapists can work alongside individuals with different abilities, including a friend of hers who has Muscular Dystrophy. She loved seeing how occupational therapists use their problem-solving skills and creativity to help clients thrive in their everyday lives, and it inspired her to pursue a career in the field, with a focus on pediatric occupational therapy.
“I LOVE kids and see myself as a big kid, so going the pediatric route in this career was not a hard choice.” Heidi values the chance to form relationships with kids and their families and getting to encourage them through all aspects of their child's life.
Heidi enjoys helping kids understand who they are and what they are capable of. As an OT, she gets to cheer the kids on in all they do and learn. “I have a passion to help kids get involved in hobbies, sports, and play that they love. I think extracurricular activities bring so much value to a child's life. My passions for adaptive sports and community connections have allowed me to be involved in many great organizations and events!”
Heidi has a master’s degree in occupational therapy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Lexi Piekarski, MS OTR/L
Occupational Therapist
Favorite activity as a child: Playing house & Barbies at my babysitters and creating pretend cooking shows in my kitchen.
-
I discovered my passion for pediatric occupational therapy during one of my 100 level courses in undergrad. We had professionals come in to talk about their work, and when I was called on to try on a body sock during a demonstration with a pediatric OT, I knew this was the right profession for me!
Professionally, I'm interested in sensory integration and interoception, seeking to understand how these aspects impact children's development and well-being.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with friends & family and golfing in the summer.
Lexi holds a Master of Occupational Therapy degree and a Bachelor of Science in Excercise Science and Psychology degree from Carroll University.

I became a physical therapist to empower others to live fulfilling and active lives, regardless of how "athletic" they are. My professional interests include pelvic floor health and neurodiversity-affirmation.
Outside of work, I enjoy bird watching, rock climbing, and paddle boarding.
Amanda holds a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology degree from the University of Oklahoma.
Angela Kloiber, PT, DPT
Physical Therapist
Favorite activity as a child: Playing soccer from childhood through college and long-distance biking
-
As a Pediatric Physical Therapist, Angela says she feels called to help children find the joy of movement no matter what limitations they may have.
“I love helping children find ways for them to have as much independence as possible, enjoy moving, and to continue to support their growth and development. I have an older brother who went to physical therapy from a young age throughout his adolescence; I was the tag along to appointments. It is one of the few health professions where you get to spend quality time with children and their families and build a close rapport. Plus, I get to sing, dance, and be creative while still making a clinical impact.”
Because no two children are the same, Angela says each visit and treatment plan is unique. Treating children keeps her on her toes, and she is continually learning and growing. The children's (sometimes brutal) honesty keeps her grounded.
Angela has a Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree from Carroll University.

Dana Bohrer, MA CCC-SLP
Executive Director and CEO
Favorite toys as a child: Barbies, Cabbage Patch Kids, Strawberry Shortcake
-
From a very young age, Dana knew she wanted to help people. “My aunt is a speech pathologist, and I had the opportunity to observe her work as a teenager and immediately fell in love with all things speech!”
Dana started Aspire with the idea that we could better help kids and families if we could "meet them where they are" physically and otherwise. She wanted to eliminate the "drop off and pick up" feel of traditional therapy and include the family in therapy as much as possible. In doing so, we’re able to support the whole family and to encourage generalization of skills to other environments.
Today, Dana oversees the operations of the clinic, marketing, outreach, and managing the staff.
“I LOVE that we have the opportunity to help support the growth of kids at Aspire but also love and support their families. Each therapist here has a heart and passion for what they do and the love they have for their work shines through every day.”
Dana believes all kids should have the opportunity to meet their full potential. She founded Aspire to help ensure kids have access to the care that they need and deserve, and says we shouldn't try to change who they are, but celebrate them for who they are.
“My favorite moments are the ‘small’ victories and the joy that you see from the child and their parent when those moments happen.”
Dana has a Bachelor Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders and a Master of Arts in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of South Dakota.
Elizabeth Ostrowski, MS CCC-SLP
Director of Clinical Services
Favorite activity as a child: Playing with the doll house her grandfather built for her, complete with working lights, miniature furniture for every room and family figures to live inside it

When your job is all about problem solving and making things better, each day requires creativity, innovation, and anticipation. Thankfully, Elizabeth specializes in those things. She is the Assistant Director at Aspire and the Speech-language Pathology Team Lead, so she assists with day-to-day operations, creating policies and procedures, managing scheduling, and providing guidance to team leads and clinicians.
I got into Speech-language Pathology because of my love for children and wanting to help enrich their lives by helping them connect and communicate with others. Without connection and communication life is way less exciting. I didn't know I was interested in leadership and business development until I was told I would be good at it and was offered an opportunity to develop my leadership skills in my last job at a nationally recognized children's hospital. When I met Dana, she also saw my potential and how my previous experiences would help her build her dream company and carry out her mission of serving families in the Dane County area.” Elizabeth enjoys tackling problems through the lens of experience and leadership, and tries not to take herself too seriously. She works to help Aspire reach its potential and make a lasting impact.
She loves that the families Aspire works with are so incredibly invested in making sure their children have every opportunity to enjoy all that life has to offer.”
Elizabeth received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Baylor University and a Master of Science degree in Communication Disorders from the University of Texas-Dallas.
